Germany is again represented as a "National Member" in the ISWA!

"The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Abfallwirtschaft e. V. (DGAW) and the German RETech Partnership e. V. (RETech) want to jointly assume international responsibility in the ISWA (International Solid Waste Association) and have decided to apply as National Members. As expected, the ISWA General Assembly unanimously approved the application at its meeting on October 3, 2021."With DGAW and RETech, Germany will once again be represented in ISWA as a National Member from 1 January 2022," says Prof. Dr. Michael Nelles (holder of the Chair of Waste and Resource Management at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Rostock and Scientific Director of the German Biomass Research Centre), who, as a board member of both associations, is responsible for coordinating the joint work as a National Member and formally representing both organizations in ISWA.

Western industrialized countries in particular have a duty to act as role models in waste management, share know-how, promote technology transfer and drive innovation in the circular economy! Climate and resource protection do not end at national borders.

Germany is regarded worldwide as a pioneer and role model in the waste and circular economy. This applies in particular to the collection of waste, technologies for treatment and environmentally friendly use as a secondary raw material and for energy generation. As a country that has had a landfill ban for non-pretreated organically degradable municipal waste in place since 2005, that sets standards in recycling, energy generation and flue gas cleaning in thermal recovery, that has developed return systems and that promotes product responsibility, we can drive development worldwide as a member of international waste management organizations.

DGAW and RETech have been Gold Members of ISWA since 2019 and are pooling their activities in a joint working group called "ISWA Germany".This informs the members of both associations about the ISWA working groups, ISWA activities, events and publications.Members also have access to ISWA journals and can use the knowledge base.

All activities of the working group are published on a separate homepage: www.iswa-germany.de. In addition to the two offices of DGAW and RETech, Dr. Haniyeh Jalalipour (ISWA coordinator at the University of Rostock) is also available as a further contact person.
