Full professor for waste and wastewater treatment at Trier University of Applied Sciences since 1987

1996 Founded the University of Applied Environmental Sciences in Birkenfeld near Trier

Lecturer at the University of Stuttgart and the University of Koblenz-Landau

He founded the Institute for Waste Management and Material Resources at Trier University of Applied Sciences.

He was Vice President and Board Member of the German Association for Waste Management (DGAW)

He was Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Private and Public Waste Management Industry (EdDE)

Member and owner of a private consulting company since 1989 (Ingenieurgruppe RUK GmbH)

He is worked as a senior consultant in Germany and several other countries

He has  published numerous technical papers (over 500) and books as author and editor (Trier reports on waste management 25 volumes, several contributions to the “Waste manual”, Introduction to the circular economy, practical handbook of the circular and raw materials economy).

German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) as an expert for waste treatment and contaminated sites and as an expert for plant safety in biogas plants and landfill gas technology.

His main areas of interest are landfill technology, landfill gas, remediation of old landfills, landfill mining, anaerobic digestion, biogas, plant safety and explosion protection.
